A recipe for gourmets, the recipe for Homemade donuts very soft! To decorate with dark or white chocolate, or simply sprinkled with icing sugar, they are totally customizable.
Who hasn't dreamed of tasting the donuts that we often see in American TV series? It is quite possible to make them at home with this very easy donut recipe. An extra snack to treat yourself!
What you'll love about this donut recipe
- they are soft and fluffy !
- we decorate them like one wants
- many ingredients are simple like those of a brioche
- easy to prepare with your family
What ingredients for this donut recipe?
These are the classic ingredients of a brioche dough : milk, butter, sugar, salt, flour, baker's yeast, vanilla, eggs. I advise you to place the ingredients at ambient temperature at least 30 minutes before starting the recipe. This optimizes the end result.
You also need somehuile de friture, since this is how the “minute” cooking of donuts is done.

How to make homemade donuts?
Once the dough is kneaded, let it rise for 1h30 so that it doubles in volume. Then, roll out the dough on the work surface and use a donut cookie cutter. The shapes are thus cut very easily.
At this point we let it rest again for 30 minutes and we can fry our donuts! We place them one by one in a pan with frying oil to sear them for about 1 minutes each one then drained well.
NB: the complete list of ingredients and the detailed recipe are given at the bottom of the page.
How to decorate donuts?
We use white chocolate pastry and dark chocolate pastry which is melted separately (in the microwave or bain-marie). Simply dip the top of the donuts in it, and presto, you have a glaze.
Just after, when the chocolate icing is not yet dry, we add small additional decorations : vermicelli of all colors, sugar confetti, praline etc... Everything is possible, enjoy yourself!
You can also enjoy homemade donuts plain, or just sprinkled with icing sugar...

How to store homemade donuts?
Once made, whether decorated or not, you can keep your donuts. at room temperature for up to 2 days. To keep their freshness and their taste, I advise you to place them in an airtight container, away from sunlight and heat. Before putting them in a container, let them cool well.

- 240 ml milk
- 50 g unsalted butter
- 1 cs baker's yeast (the one for the buns)
- 65 g granulated sugar
- 1 pinch of salt
- 0,5 cc natural vanilla extract
- 2 whole eggs
- 500 g all-purpose flour
- 1 liter cooking oil
- Dark chocolate pastry
- White chocolate pastry
- Decorations: praline, chocolate sprinkles etc.
- In a saucepan, heat the milk, melt the soft butter. Let cool.
- Once the milk has cooled, pour it into a container and add the baker's yeast, powdered sugar, salt, vanilla, whole eggs, and the flour in several batches.
- At this stage we abandon the whisk to take the dough with the hands! This dough should be kneaded for about 5 minutes. Do not hesitate to add more flour if it is too sticky.
- Let the dough rest (and rise!) In its container, covered with a cloth for 1h30 (ideally in a warm place). It must double in size.
- On a floured work surface, roll out the dough to a height of 1cm using a rolling pin.
- Use the donut cookie cutter (link to my material above) to form the 15 donuts. Cover with a tea towel and leave to rest for 30 minutes in a warm place.
- Prepare a saucepan / sauté pan with the cooking oil. Heat over medium heat (the oil must not be too hot, otherwise your donuts will burn!).
- Gently place each donut in the oil, fry 30 seconds to 1 minute per side. Then drain on absorbent paper.
- Allow donuts to cool before frosting with melted dark chocolate and melted white chocolate (double boiler or microwave). It's up to you to add the small decorations afterwards.

Thanks! Baked donuts? Oh, I hadn't seen that possibility! The recipes all mention oil, but don't be afraid of the result, you can't taste the oil, just the softness of the donuts.
ahlalalala I love donuts! It takes a long time to make but you are rewarded at the end ^^ yours are magnificent :) Kisses
I'm discovering your blog and I'm not sure it's a good thing for my greedy mind!

AIE Aie Aie ! What give me ideas to taste it! All I need is the baker's yeast (and with a crossroads right next to it, it's not going to be easy not to crack) Yours are very beautiful!
They are superb, it's funny yesterday when placing an order on Halwatishop I put the donut cutter in my basket but removed it saying to myself next time. I'm starting to regret it...
Ah that's a shame indeed! Considering the price (4.90€ I think), I didn't hesitate, especially since it makes the cutting work a lot easier... See you soon!
They are very beautiful. It makes you want to get started...
They look sooo good, in any case they are really beautiful.
Damn, I don't have the cookie cutter ^^
I know someone who would like it! It's Mr. Zelittlekitchen!! Donuts are his guilty pleasure and yours are magnificent :)
It tempts me your American-style pastries, I am more used to traditional pastries like pie / cakes.
I see that you like to highlight the aesthetic side of your creations, it's very successful!
[...] (yes I'm too crazy) and my little brother gave me a donut kit so I think this recipe will also be included... If after this article someone still asks me why I have [...]

Hello ,
today decide to make your recipe wait and see what it gives I will give you my verdict ;)
Hello Perledor, I await your verdict then :-)
Hello Lilie, I find your cooking magical and delicious. I am a big fan of Oreos (which has nothing to do with this donut recipe) and I think you should do the next season of the best pastry chef. You have all your chances!!!!! ;P :) ;)
Thank you Ellie for these compliments, it touches me a lot! See you soon!
Hello, I have fresh baker's yeast in 42G cubes, how many grams do you need to equal a tablespoon as in your recipe???
Thank you
Hello Florent, very good question, mine being in powder form, I measured it in tablespoons... I think a tablespoon is equivalent to 15g. See you soon.
You can see that they are successful! It is really a very appetizing recipe, always better than the industrial cakes in stores.
what a treat! I tested the recipe yesterday for a snack and there's already none left
I plan to do some more today and post the photos on my blog, with of course a link to your blog.
thank you for this delicious sharing!
BIG SHIT I wasted my afternoon your donuts are bread!! Your recipe is not even right!! WHEN WE DON'T KNOW WE DON'T OFFER RECIPES.
If other readers succeeded and you didn't, find the mistake. PS: Profanity is not tolerated on this blog.
The donuts were a great success. I recommend them 100%. Everyone enjoyed them... thank you very much.
Hello thanks for the recipe. Can we make this donuts with frosting and store it?
Hello,
Do you think it is possible to freeze? History of being able to have sweets in advance ☺️
Hello,
They look delicious... your photos are beautiful!
Can I prepare them the day before? Will they be soft? Is it possible to freeze them?
Thank you
Hello! I've been looking for a donut recipe for almost an hour! Your recipe looks great given the comments and the pretty pictures. Thank you ;)
Hello, I am shocked that people can speak so badly on a post (I am talking about the insults of 2016) which is moreover unjustified. Saturday I made my first donuts and they were so good that I did not have time to put them in chocolate! My husband jumped on them as soon as they came out of the oil and the children with icing sugar .... I hope that my batch today will finally be chocolate. They are perfect, you don't have to change anything. I opted for 15g of fresh yeast. Thank you ...

Super good ! I made as specified the white chocolate icing with chocolate sprinkles it looks like real American donuts, thank you for the recipe
Hello,
Is it possible to make the donuts the day before for the next day? Do they stay also soft?
Hi Laura, it's not as good the next day (you know, like the ones you buy at a funfair - they're better eaten straight away). But you can possibly warm them up in the microwave the next day to see if they suit your taste.
Hello very good recipe I have just tried my family loved it thank you.
Hello Precillia, that's very kind, but I don't understand the rating you gave my recipe: 3/5...
I was able to make about 19 donuts with this recipe. I had to add a lot of flour because after adding the 500 grams, the dough was still too sticky, almost liquid. I was afraid of failing the recipe. In the end it went well.
Thanks for your return !
Excellent donuts!!! A clear and simple recipe that will give you very soft donuts.
Thank you very much Sofia! See you soon :)
First test for us concerning the donuts and we were very satisfied! Little dough for a lot of donuts!! THANKS !
Thank you very much Delphine! See you soon :)
Hello, I tried the recipe but failed, the donuts did not rise, so they were heavy and doughy. Where could I have gone wrong? I used baking yeast powder (1 sachet), the dough did not rise during the break, nor during baking. I added flour because the dough was sticky. What could be wrong with me? THANKS!
Hello Laure, so if your dough has not risen = problem with your yeast, that's for sure. I advise you to change it, and to read on the box if it needs to be rehydrated or not before use. If this is the case, you have to leave it alone in the warm (not hot) buttermilk for 10 minutes before continuing with the recipe. See you soon :)
Hello, it is with this recipe that I discovered your blog, and I can tell you that from now on I will make many others because they are all appetizing ;)
So far I have already made this one as well as the Neapolitan and both were a success!
Bravo to you for this very interesting blog and the recipes you offer, which are very explicit.
I congratulate you because the explanations are very clear.
Hello Aurore, and thank you very much for your message! I am delighted that you like the donuts and the Neapolitan in any case :) I try to be as precise as possible in my explanations so that everyone can succeed :) I'll see you soon for the next recipes!
Cc I love donuts and I like to make them at home with my family but mine are not as soft as yours seem to be, they become hard after frying yet I do it exactly as the recipe indicates. How can I make my donuts really soft please, I need help
Hello Fatima, thank you for your message! If your donut dough has risen well before cooking (very important), and after cooking they seem dry, it is because you are cooking them too long in the oil. Try changing this parameter, and you will see the difference. See you soon :)
Hello,
I tried the recipe and it was a success, thank you very much!
Thank you Lynda for your feedback! See you soon :)
Hello, my Pat doesn't get up after an hour, is this normal or not?
Hello Linda, no this is not normal, it probably means that the place where you placed your container is not warm enough to let the dough rise (if you followed the rest of the recipe). See you soon :)
Hello
For me it's definitely lacking in sugar...
I'm here alone,,
Hello Frédérique, the sugar here is mainly brought by the decoration that you will make for them afterwards. It is surprising as a remark because we are looking for less sugar than too much these days... See you soon :)
Hi, I only have 1/2 of a sachet of baker's yeast left, is that okay?
Hello, I advise you to keep the dosage from the recipe. See you soon :)
Hello, I'd like to try your recipe, but the only problem is the grease. Could you tell me if your recipe can also be used for baked donuts? Thank you.
Hi Christelle, no, it's not a baked version. See you soon :)
I tested the recipe and I confirm, the donut is ultra soft (like a brioche)
At the end of cooking, it is not at all greasy!!
This is the best recipe, thanks for sharing.
Thank you Emeline! See you soon :)
